Global Aid

I completely agree with Shikwati in his interview.  We should stop sending aid to these African countries or any country for that matter.  Like Shikwati said the aid we send to these countries weakens then even more because they do not know how to help themselves.  The aid we send does also take away jobs for those within these countries.  “In 1997, 137,000 workers were employed in Nigeria's textile industry. By 2003, the figure had dropped to 57,000.”  We are just making it so the people of these countries we send aid to do not have to take care of themselves because they can just cry for help and we will come running instead of making them try to figure it out for themselves.  Children have to learn to live on their own and be independent and so do these countries or they will never grow and be successful.  They cannot always rely on someone else to solve all their problems.  I think instead of sending them the aid we should tell them how to help themselves to become more successful and how to grow as a county.  This way they will learn and maybe eventually they will not be so poor and not have so many starving people.  All of their companies and farms will be able to actually make money because they will not have to compete with the cheap products that are brought over because of the aid we send to their country.  I feel we are doing more harm than help just like Shikwati thinks.
