well-being and equality

Well-being and equality seem to be the most important intrinsic values of good. Well-being is the very core part of the intrinsic value. However, well-being itself is not enough for goodness; equality is also necessary. Some might say that the theory of desertion is also necessary, given the example in the class of Hitlers followers and Mother Teresa. In that case, the theory of desertion is important for goodness however this is not always the case. In the case of President Bush and President Obama, the theory of desertion would have different meaning for people with different ideas. Therefore it can be very subjective and thought of as an instrumental value instead of intrinsic value. The theory of equality is more universal because without equality, a person has a more difficult time being good. This is because it is in a human’s nature to live in a society and have relations with others. Without equality and well-being people will feel guilty because others are not as well off as them. An example of this is when you know that there are people suffering; it makes you feel remorseful. I think that it this part human nature, which enables us to care about others. When people volunteer at places where there are people in need of help, many say that the happy reactions that come from the people they help have an uplifting effect on them.  Sharing ones well-being leads to equality, which then increases the overall well-being. Therefore, equality and well-being are very important intrinsic values.
